The INRA 2018 feeding system for ruminants. 2. Application to rationing
Abstract
The INRA 2018 feeding system for ruminants, which is described in the companion paper, is suitable for dairy or beef cattle, sheep and goats, whether they are fed at the trough or on pasture. The INRAtion®V5 software provides operational support for the system. It solves rationing issues based on animal and herd characteristics, available feed and farmer objectives. These objectives may relate to animal production, management of body reserves, the biological or economic efficiency of resource use, or the limitation of environmental waste, and may be multiple. Multi-objective optimisation enables the proposal of a ration representing the best compromise between these objectives. The animals' responses to this ration can be predicted in order to establish an a priori diagnosis of the ration based on different criteria. This paper presents examples of multi-objective resolution and multi-criteria evaluation of diets for various types of ruminants and productions.
