Threonine requirement of avian species

Abstract

Threonine is often the third limiting essential amino acid for avian species when they are fed on diets based on corn and soybean meal. Several data on chicken broiler requirement have been recently published. They are less abundant for turkey and duck, mainly during the finishing period. Threonine dœs not seem to influence significantly carcass quality (muscle and abdominal fat proportions). Threonine deficiencies can only be observed in practical conditions, when crude protein content is deeply reduced.
