Housing and welfare of rabbits : more questions than answers ?
Published : 6 March 2007
Abstract
During the last decade, many studies have been carried out on the impact of housing systems on rabbit welfare. In this review, we choseto deal with certain key points of the debate such as floor type, environmental improvement e.g. providing bedding/substrates for oralactivities, reorganization of space by installing a platform inside the cage, social enrichment (collective accommodation of breedingfemales), and the amount of space available. In conclusion, from a review of the literature and our own experience, it would seem thatmany fundamental questions about rabbit welfare remain to be answered.
