Butyric a id bacteria in milk and in silage

Abstract

Detailed observations were carried out over 2 consecutive years on the contamination of silage, dung and milk in Haute-Loire France. The studies were carried out on 19 farms using grass silage as main roughage and which also had a high concentration of butyric spores in the milk. A clear link was observed between butyric spores in silage and dung and also between butyric spores in milk and in dung. The first way to improve milk quality is to reduce silage contamination even if discarding contaminated silage and employing hygienic milking conditions can help to limit milk contamination
